Surfers Coffee Debuts Live Music Nights

The rich aroma of coffee filled the air and an excited chatter began building in anticipation for the first artist to take the stage. This would be the first of many more music-filled nights to come. Within a matter of thirty minutes, Surfers Coffee was full of people awaiting the introduction of each inspiring and creative artist. Some people were seated at different tables all around the room while others stood in groups conversating with one another. The mood was light and what ordinarily is a serene, cool coffee shop had become transformed by a thrilling new energy.  Dustin Pacleb was the first of the two artists to perform and his music fueled ...

Middle Eastern Adventures

Our stellar team is back from the Middle East and have countless stories of all their impactful experiences. It has been a pleasure to listen intently as they paint a beautiful picture of their journeys and we are excited to also share them with you!   As Told by Kaylen Wray, The goal of this trip for me was to see how Surfing The Nations surf culture influences the surf community in Egypt, specifically the Bianki Melt club. Surfing is the platform that allows us to actually connect with people and it was very obvious that Surfing The Nations has truly impacted the Egyptian surf community and is a huge part of the boys’ lives. The ...

Christmas Traditions Around The World

One of the most beautiful things about Christmas is the many diverse and unique traditions that create a lifetime of memories sometimes passed down through generations of families. We have the privilege of celebrating this season with people from all over the globe and share our treasured traditions with one another as an ohana. Representing six different countries, a few of our staff answered some fun questions about how they celebrate the Christmas season. Ulu Pono Christmas Party

The afternoon began with assorted Christmas cookies, festively decorated cupcakes and hot chocolate. Both Ulu Pono kids and teens filled the room with laughter and excitement to celebrate the Christmas festivities that were underway. The room was lit by bulb lights strung from the ceiling and a Christmas tree topped with a Santa hat in the corner.  Collectively we gathered on blankets, covering the floor, and kicked off the party watching "How The Grinch Stole Christmas." As the movie came to an end, the kids anxiously awaited to receive their gifts from the Ulu Pono staff members. Little did they know, each of them would also receive a brand new ...

Celebrating With Hearts of Thankfulness

On a warm November night the eve of Thanksgiving, we hosted our annual Thanksgiving Luau. It was with grateful hearts that we celebrated the year of 2017 with our local community. An ambient glow and aroma of the savory Thanksgiving meal filled the property. Every individual that attended instantly felt welcomed and were served a hot meal. Several of our local military families also volunteered to prepare and serve meals throughout the evening. It was truly a night to remember filled with intentional conversations, newly formed relationships with others in the community, dancing, and much more.       Madi Graham, who is a new staff member at ...

Road Tripping Through Australia

When years are spent dreaming about traveling to a new place, there is a strange mix of emotions that occurs when one finally arrives at said location. The excitement of being in a new place combined with the wonder of the unknown and a hand full of hopeful expectations is usually the trio responsible for the lovely endorphin rush a traveller experiences as he or she walks down the terminal. After leaving baggage claim and taking in that first breath of “fresh” air (usually a combination of car exhaust and jet fumes), he or she realizes it’s time to test whether the reality will live up to his or her imagination... Now, picture our ...

The True Island Experience

Today's blog is brought to you by an STN intern, Chloe Purpero, from North Carolina. Upon arriving in January, she shares a glimpse of her experience from working and serving at Surfing The Nations.    Since coming to Hawaii with Surfing the Nations, my perspective of the island has been completely shaken. Each day, my heart has been broken for something I have seen or by something that I have learned. Perhaps the splendor of the island masks and overshadows the true brokenness that people endure in Hawaii every day. The biggest blessing since being here has been working with the kid’s program Ulu Pono. Last week, we were able to ...

Sweden Ohana Night

This December, Stefan and Christy Eriksson, directors of STN Sweden, hosted an amazing Ohana Night Fika in Flora, Sweden! The evening was full of laughter, memories, dreams and plans for the future. We were thrilled to see the growth of STN Sweden and loved reconnecting with STN Hawaii alumni, new and old. From starting families to offering assistance to refugees in Sweden, we could not be more proud of all vast ways that our Swedish Ohana are impacting their communities in Sweden. Thank you to all who were able to be a part of this special evening!
