Freedom Surf Camp

At STN, we never outgrow Spring Break! And this year, we got to spend it having fun in the sun and surf at our Freedom Surf Camp. Held at Ali’i Beach Park in Haleiwa, this was the first time hosting our annual surf camp on the North Shore… and it definitely won’t be the last!

The idea of hosting a surf camp originated from our desire to get to know kids and families from all over the island and share what it means to be a “Surfer Giving Back”. 55 kids from all over Oahu came out to participate, many of whom got to experience riding a wave for the first time! Throughout the 3 days of surf and swim lessons, kids also learned about ocean safety, played games, and participated in a Harbor Cleanup. We encouraged the ‘groms’ to find ways to pour back into their community through the sport of surfing, while teaching this next generation of surfers that they can have fun without drugs and alcohol.

This camp was ultimately all about the kids, but our staff could not deny that they had a blast running it. “We loved seeing the stoke on the campers faces as they caught their first waves,” says camp director Matthew Braica. “We got to know every child personally and as each brought a fresh excitement to the sport of surfing, we were reminded of why we absolutely love our jobs!”

Special thanks to our sponsors: Aion, Chilis, Cobian, Hurley, Island Fin Design, John Carper (JC) Surfboards, North Shore Surf Shop & Tamba.

Thanks to all who came out for the event! We hope to see you again next year!
