Community Outreach Training Center

No matter your age, you are never too young to start making a difference! Read below to see how the students and teachers of Christian Academy chose to make an impact! As a teenager, raising $4000 may seem like an impossible task - let alone raising it for a local non-profit organization! However, that is exactly what Christian Academy in Red Hill pledged to fundraise for the construction of our new Community Outreach and Training Center (COTC). On April 16th, they presented us with a check for not only $4,000... but $4,879! They exceeded their original goal and became the first group to fundraise for the COTC. With the money raised, we were able to ...

Dawn Patrol

One eyelid slowly cracks open as you reach to turn off the loud beeping that is your alarm. As you climb out what feels like the most warm and comfortable place on this planet, there is one word echoing through your mind: c o f f e e.  But as you stumble towards your caffeine machine, you catch a glimpse of your surfboard out of the corner of your eye. Suddenly, you remember why you woke up at 5:30am, and uncoincidentally you immediately have energy. You close your eyes and imagine the clean rolling waves of the North Shore, and then find yourself at your dresser hastily putting on the first swim suit that you find. As you rush out of the door with ...

On the Other Side of Go: TOFINO

In the land of maple syrup, hockey, and igloos lies a small town that happens to also happens to include our favorite sport: surfing! Freedom Surf Camp

At STN, we never outgrow Spring Break! And this year, we got to spend it having fun in the sun and surf at our Freedom Surf Camp. Held at Ali’i Beach Park in Haleiwa, this was the first time hosting our annual surf camp on the North Shore… and it definitely won’t be the last! The idea of hosting a surf camp originated from our desire to get to know kids and families from all over the island and share what it means to be a “Surfer Giving Back”. 55 kids from all over Oahu came out to participate, many of whom got to experience riding a wave for the first time! Throughout the 3 days of surf and swim lessons, kids also learned about ocean ...

Alumni Wave- “Where are they now?”

This month for our Alumni Wave, we introduce to you... Sanna Myers! After bringing the ‘fire’ to Surfing The Nations in 2010, Sanna has been quick to carry the torch onto her new clothing company, "SPARK," that is soon to set the fashion industry ablaze. (Are we punny yet?) Sanna Myers, who many of you remember as Sanna Parker, moved to Hawaii from Sweden and soon became a valued member of our STN staff.  Although she served in all of our outreaches and spent countless hours working in our office, for Sanna, Surfing The Nations was much more than just a job. "STN definitely inspired me to go after my dreams."  Throughout her time here, ...

S.A.L.T.

After 8 years of dreaming- and months of preparing- the first ever S.A.L.T. trip was successfully pioneered by the students of the Spring 2015 Surfers Leadership School! So, what is S.A.L.T., you may ask? Surprisingly, the "S" has nothing to do with surfing, but rather - SAILING. S.A.L.T., an acronym for Sailing Adventure Leadership Training, turned out to be the perfect description for what the students experienced over their five days at sea. Between high waves and beautiful Hawaiian islands, this journey was the experience of a lifetime. Modeling the quote by Yvon Chouinard, “When everything goes wrong – that’s when adventure ...
