Sweden Ohana Night

This December, Stefan and Christy Eriksson, directors of STN Sweden, hosted an amazing Ohana Night Fika in Flora, Sweden! The evening was full of laughter, memories, dreams and plans for the future. We were thrilled to see the growth of STN Sweden and loved reconnecting with STN Hawaii alumni, new and old. From starting families to offering assistance to refugees in Sweden, we could not be more proud of all vast ways that our Swedish Ohana are impacting their communities in Sweden. Thank you to all who were able to be a part of this special evening!

Alumni Wave: Where Are They Now?

For this month’s Alumni Wave, we are featuring a lovely lady from S W E D E N: Anna Strandberg. Keep reading to see how this former STN Staff member is doing now, and what she’s doing to pursue her dreams! Anna Strandberg first came to Surfing The Nations in January of 2011, and - although her intentions were to stay for a 3 month internship program - Anna ended up staying for over a year, making the move back to Sweden not until April of 2012. During her stay, Anna worked hard to improve the internship program as the Internship Coordinator. “It was amazing to meet people from all over the world, and watch them learn to give back to their ...

Alumni Wave- “Where are they now?”

This month for our Alumni Wave, we introduce to you... Sanna Myers! After bringing the ‘fire’ to Surfing The Nations in 2010, Sanna has been quick to carry the torch onto her new clothing company, "SPARK," that is soon to set the fashion industry ablaze. (Are we punny yet?) Sanna Myers, who many of you remember as Sanna Parker, moved to Hawaii from Sweden and soon became a valued member of our STN staff.  Although she served in all of our outreaches and spent countless hours working in our office, for Sanna, Surfing The Nations was much more than just a job. "STN definitely inspired me to go after my dreams."  Throughout her time here, ...

On the Other Side of Go: GOTHENBURG

Since our start in 1997, hundreds of people from all over the world have come through Surfing The Nations to serve and volunteer, some for just a month and others for years! Each person has made a lasting impact and become part of our (constantly growing) STN Ohana.  However, there is one unlikely country you will be guaranteed to find a representative of at any given moment: S W E D E N.  The Swedish "wikings", as we jokingly call them, have introduced many of their fun traditions to our STN community that have now become deeply rooted in our DNA. From afternoon 'fikas' (a sweet treat and a coffee) to butchering every word of their happy ...

STN Sweden and Ireland Trip

On July 16th -August 18, founder of Surfing the Nations Cindy Bauer and two STN staff members, Renee Arnold and Julie Nelson, took off on a trip to Sweden and Ireland. STN Sweden is in its early days of forming and developing so Cindy, Renee and Julie went over to meet with the Swedish staff, help cast the vision and equip the leaders. Renee and Julie jetted off to Ireland for a week to get to know the people there and scout out a place where STN Sweden could send teams to for humanitarian and surf outreaches. Here is an excerpt from Julie that she wrote as the trip was coming to an end: (more…)
