SHOWING THE WAY

The mission is to serve the local surfing community and to meet the tangible needs of the surrounding islands of Gili, Lombock, and Nusa Lembogen

VISION

To establish a Surfing The Nations International Surf Center to train and equip local and international surfers to give back to Bali and the outlying islands.

PAST

Surfing The Nations first went to Bali, Indonesia, in 1998, with a small team of seven. During that first outreach Tom Bauer committed STN to return each July for ten years. In 2008 STN celebrated ten years of continued serves of surfers giving back with a team of 122 members from all around the world.

STN continues to travel to Indonesia and has established strong relationships with numerous families on Bali and many outer islands. Thru these relationships we have been able to serve the local communities with surf contests for the local groms, beach clean ups, clothes and toy distribution, English lessons, and property development. Serving each community is what makes these surf adventures the most memorable.

Indonesia also hosts some of the best surf breaks in the world such as Scar Reef, Dessert Point and Shipwreck which serve as a launching pad to give back to the outer island of Gili, Lombok and Nusa Lembogen. Surfing world-class breaks has been one of the amazing experiences for many of the STN surfers.

PRESENT

Surfing The Nations is gearing up to begin preparing for the 13th annual Bali, Indonesia surfing adventure tour. STN will travel to Indonesia in July, 2010, seeking out ways to continue to serve and build community within the islands of Gili, Lombok, Nusa Lembogen and Bali.

FUTURE

Surfing The Nations is committed to see surfers give back to the people of Bali. Establishing a Surfing The Nations International Surf Center will enable STN to train and send out other surfers to live out the motto of surfers giving back. Whether it’s in Lombock, Nusa Lemgonen, or Gili, STN knows that commitment to serve others shows that surfers can and will make a positive difference within a community.

REAL STORIES

1

MATT ROWLAND

Say yes one time and it can change your life forever.  Saying yes to my first trip to Indonesia was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I started going with Surfing The Nations to Bali, on my summer breaks from college.  After graduating and working in the business world I still couldn't shake the dreams of Indonesia.  I had to go back.

Surfing The Nations gave me a springboard to dive into the hearts of the Indonesian people.  As of today I've spent a little over 9 months there.  When you get there you will be greeted with huge grins and hello's from our local friends.  You will also have the opportunity to make new friends of your own.  Camp fires on the beach, music and color, chicken sate, trima kasih banyak! taking care of orphans, giving clothes to those in need, boat trip on the Indian Ocean, adventure weaved with exotic culture.

My first trip I met Howie from Lombok and we stayed in touch.  After seven years he has become one of my best friends.  Although our goal is to meet needs and change lives ...I wonder... "who's life has been changed more"?

We can say without hesitancy, that the trips we have have gone on with Surfing the Nations have been some of the best experiences of our life. These trips have broadened our perspective of humanity, deepened our appreciation for life, and helped us to see beauty of creation.

The bonds we have formed with other people on these trips have become friendships we are convinced we will have for the rest of our life. Being able to not only make a positive impact in the lives of others on these trips, but to come away realizing that the greatest impact was the one others had on us is something we deeply cherish. And with out a doubt, we surfed the best waves of our life on these trips! We dreamt about our experiences in Bali, Indonesia with Surfing the Nations before we went, and look back at them now knowing that our actual experiences exceeded all of our dreams. Thanks Surfing The Nations for all that you have done and continue to do. Because of you we have been able to see the beauty in life, others, and love throughout the world.
