Inter-Island Adventures

One of the main highlights of our Internship program is the Inter-Island outreach to one of the neighboring Hawaiian islands. This semester, our interns headed off to Maui and had the time of their lives.  Sit back and relax as Noel, one of our current interns, shares her experience of this trip.   Inter-island was an experience that our entire internship had been anxiously awaiting.  We were split into two separate groups, which allowed us to grow with each other on a deeper level. There was the possibility that each team would venture to different islands. We did not discover our destinations until we arrived at the airport in Honolulu. ...

Wave Chaser

“When you are waiting for a wave your mind can think a thousand different things. when you paddle for a wave your mind thinks of only a few things. when you catch a wave your mind thinks of only one thing, that one thing is joy. This is why I surf.” - Tony Collins, Sports Author I’m often asked why I do what I do.  Why do I spend so much time and energy promoting this idea of “surfers giving back”?  Why chose to work for a non-profit in this season of my life instead of pursuing a career and wealth?  We at STN each have our reasons, but for me, the latest Freedom Surf Camp reminded me of part of the motivation to live the life I ...

The Heart Behind Giving Back

“The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”  CHEE! Christmas is officially around the corner and you all know what that means.  Joy.  Laughter flooding the atmosphere and warm snuggles.  Plentiful amounts of eggnog, the sweet smell of peppermint and colourful stockings hung above blazing fires. You know what the real magic is behind Christmas though? Giving. It’s watching someone's face light up when they receive the perfect gift.  That is the joy behind Christmas.  It’s not about a store bought gift or how many “likes” you got on your christmas selfie.  Don’t get me wrong - those things ...
